Frequently Asked Questions: Groups

Who is allowed to attend groups?

All existing clients and any public safety personnel or family members. You do not have to be an individual therapy client in order to attend. You will receive an email from the practice regarding additional paperwork you may need to fill out if you are not an existing client. If you are unsure if you would be a good fit for one of our groups, please call our office, and we will be happy to assist you.

When and where are groups held?

Groups are typically held during the week in the evenings for about an hour to an hour and a half. Our non-profit partner, Virginia First Responder Support Services, has a suite in our building that offers a small classroom teaching environment.

How much does it cost to attend a group?

$50 per group session. We accept insurance to cover the costs, and most individuals just pay their copay. If you would like to self-pay, the cost is $25 per group. We can also offer a few scholarships for individuals to attend a limited number of groups. Please contact our office to discuss payment options.

Do I have to attend in person?

While in-person attendance is preferred for all groups, we do offer telehealth accessibility since we have clients from all over the state who may benefit from group attendance.

Is this group therapy or a peer support group?

Both! A licensed professional counselor facilitates these groups and keeps them on track, but the majority of the content is discussed among peers.

What are the expectations for participants?

All participants will be asked to sign our Group Consent Form before attending group. A copy of this form can be found for your review here.
